Does your child struggle to talk and interact with a variety of peers and adults?
6 weekly, 90 minute sessions - June 17th through August 1st, 2024
(*no session week of July 1-4; absences okay for participation in Freedom Camp*)
For children ages 4-8 with a diagnosis of selective mutism
Join us for our summer groups! Small group treatment is a great way for children with SM to gain peer practice ahead of the start of school. For those participating in an intensive treatment program (such as Freedom Camp) this summer, group practice can also help your child maintain progress and continue to practice their brave talking with peers.
The group’s therapist will help each child gain brave talking practice through:
● Speaking with peers (responding and initiating)
● Speaking with the group leader and new adults (e.g. store clerks, other therapists)
● Speaking in front of the group and presenting to peers
● Self-advocating with group leader and peers
● Exploring our thoughts and feelings around anxiety, brave talking and more
Children will practice speaking with peers through fun, engaging activities including: arts and crafts, collaborative games, outdoor activities, outings to the Pruneyard, science projects, “show and tell” and other activities that incorporate the group’s interests.
Dates: 6 weekly, 90 minute sessions June 17th - August 1st, 2024 (no session week of July 1-4 &
absences okay for participation in Freedom Camp)
Location: Juniper Psychology Group Clinic (901 Campisi Way)
Fees: $300 per 90 minute group session, $275 per each 45 minute individual session/intake meeting prior to the start of group
New families will participate in an intake meeting with the therapist to determine which group would be the best fit for the child. The child will meet the group leader in a structured session prior to participating in the groups.
